Best Foreign Destinations for Non-flying Brits

As lovers of travel, the Your Money Saving are constantly looking for new places to go and visit whether they be UK based, in and around Europe or worldwide. However, unfortunately for a lot of Brits, themselves or a member of their travelling party refuse to fly, limiting their travelling options. Or so you would think.

After hours of research throughout alternative sources, the Your Money Saving team have come up with the best holiday destinations for Brits that don’t fly. We want to prove that just because you don’t fly doesn’t mean that you have to settle for a UK based holiday or a Eurostar trip to France without it costing a huge amount of money.

As well as being relevant for non-flyers, using other forms of transport rather than planes is better for the environment so you’d be doing the earth a favour as well as yourself if you were to avoid planes. Also, you’d be surprised at how many places there are that involve spending less time on a train than you would do with a plane.

Amsterdam – A long weekend to Amsterdam is possible without flying and can be done cheaply and conveniently. Coaches run daily from Harwich, Essex that take 6 and a half hours, with train travel from the coast of Amsterdam provided to the city centre. Prices for the ferry can cost at little as £25 (cheaper than flying!).

Eurostar Further Than Paris –  Many people don’t realise that it’s easy enough to travel further than Paris or Brussels via train from the UK. Other parts of France such as Marseille and Lyon are faster to get to than by plane as well as areas of Germany after changing at Brussels including Frankfurt & Dusseldorf. Train travel from London to Germany can cost as little as 50 whereas getting a train may be quicker but can end up costing you double. It’s even possible to go as far afield as Marrakech and Casablanca although this will take quite a bit longer.

Sail to Spain –  From either Portsmouth or Plymouth, it’s easy enough to get an overnight ferry to Bilbao or Santander which are both close to key areas of the country including Seville. With various accommodation options available, it’s easy enough to have a private room onboard and to wake up in Spain a few hours later.

Coast of Denmark – For a beach experience that you probably haven’t had before, we’d recommend the lovely but empty beaches at Hvide Sande on the coast of Denmark. Another overnight ferry taking around 12 hours, this is a completely unspoilt location and one that you are right next to once you depart the ferry.

UK Holidays After All – If you’d still prefer to stay in the UK for a holiday, there are plenty of locations all over the UK which we’d hugely recommend whether they be city breaks or trips to the countryside. Whether it be the Lake District, a trip to over the pond to Belfast or a city break within the UK, we’d still recommend for alternative travel options to flying which could be both more convenient and cheaper.
