Common Travel Mistakes You Should Avoid!

For a lot of people, a holiday abroad is the highlight of their year. However, it is easy to forget about the practicalities when you’re wrapped up in choosing the perfect bikini or most suitable sun cream. Before heading off on your summer travels, have a read through these common mistakes people make when going on holiday to make your trip as seamless and hassle-free as possible!

Forgetting Travel Insurance

This might seem like an obvious one, but it really is one of the most important things to remember. Last year, the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) revealed that 10 million holidaymakers travelled abroad without the appropriate travel cover. With the average insurance policy being between £10 and £30, it really is a small price to pay considering medical expenses abroad often run into the hundred thousands.

Booking On An Expensive Day

Did you know that flight prices are often cheaper on certain days of the week? According to recent studies, the cheapest days to buy flights are Sundays and Tuesdays, with the worst day being a Friday. Similarly, the day you fly can affect the price. One way to see which days are best to travel on is to go on Skyscanner and filtering by “whole month” to see which day is the cheapest!

Not Checking Exact Hotel Destination

Lots of hotels and accommodation online boast being “close to the city centre” or in an “ideal location”, but it is always best to take these with a pinch of salt. Before trusting what it says on the website, look up the exact location of it on a map and see how far it is from the actual centre by walking/driving. You don’t want to be stuck miles away from where you hoped to spend most of your holiday!

Not Making Copies of Your Documents

It might not seem obvious, but making a copy of your passport, hotel reservation, boarding passes etc. is an easy way to ensure that if they are stolen or lost, you’ll have proof of the important things and it may prevent you from being stranded! Especially with people relying on having their boarding passes on the airlines mobile app, it is important to print a copy in case something happens to your phone.

Picking The Cheapest Flights You Find

We all love a bargain, however sometimes what looks like a good deal may not be as good as it seems. With budget airlines, although the cost of the flights themselves seem cheaper, you often have to pay separately for things like seating and luggage. It might be worthwhile comparing prices after the extras have been added.
