With Autumn coming to an end in the next couple of weeks, many of us will be on the lookout for a new Winter coat or will be debating whether a couple of new pairs of thermal socks are in order for the Winter ahead.

However, many of us don’t consider making significant changes to our diet during the Winter period whilst being both healthy and fun. With winter being an expensive season for many of us, the Your Money Saving team have rustled up some cheap & delicious recipes for the coldest season of the year.

From soups to casseroles, we have you and your family covered for the cold season and we’re going to save you money whilst we’re at it.

  • Lamb Tagine – A very popular Moroccan dish, a typical lamb tagine has become an increasingly popular dish for Brits and is perfect for Winter. A dish that can be however spicy you want it to be and still taste great, a lamb tagine can also be sweet, containing apricots and dates. A typical family dish full of flavour, this is a meal that can easily be made in bulk and frozen as well as played with i.e. replacing the lamb with beef or having couscous instead or rice.

  • Leek & Potato Soup – One of the classic meat-free Winter soups that is both comforting and easy to make in bulk, a leek & potato soup is ideal for the Winter period, making the most of the vegetables that are currently in season. Easily made as a light lunch or the first part of a three course meal, this soup can also be added to with other vegetables or poultry.

  • Winter Chicken – This simple but flavoursome chicken dish is easy to make but is guaranteed to be a success with the family, adding only tomatoes, pesto & crème fraîche (reduced fat is fine). In regards to adding to this dish, rice or potatoes will be fine as well as a side salad, allowing this dish to be ready to eat in half an hour.

Sausages with Vegetable Mash – One of the many classic British dishes with a twist, Sausages with added vegetables to make the mashed potato is an amazing post-Christmas dinner meal made with whatever vegetables are left over.

Another dish that can be made in less than half an hour and suitable for all of the family, leftover vegetables from Christmas Day such as parsnips, brussel sprouts and carrots can all be added to the mash making this dish full of veg and gravy if you prefer, completing a perfect Winter meal.

Fruit Winter Salad – Of course, no dinner is complete without dessert, and this fruit salad is a perfect, light pudding that allows a range of seasonal fruits to be used accompanying natural yoghurt and a small serving of honey. The fruits used can be varied between pears, apricots, figs and cranberries amongst others.
