Getting sick on holiday sucks. It’s as simple as that. Sudden and severe illnesses, such as food poisoning or bacterial infections, are no fun when you’re at home – let alone when you’re abroad. You can do all you want to try and prevent illness, but if it happens, it’s highly likely that your holiday will be ruined.

If you’ve suffered from some sort of sickness whilst on holiday, you might not know that you can claim compensation for it. People are often unaware that they can claim for period of illness that have happened abroad, even once they are back home in the UK.

Trouble in paradise?

When you’ve spent so much on your holiday, the last thing you want is to be ill. Aside from packing half of Boots’ travel aisle in your case and investing in comprehensive travel insurance, what can we do? Your best bet for protecting yourself and your family is to be aware of the most common health risks in the destination that you’re visiting.

Unfortunately, there are loads of things which could make you poorly when you’re on your travels. You hear horror stories about weeks spent on the toilet after an unwashed salad or some dodgy ice.

When it comes to your safety, it’s your tour operator that’s responsible. One of the biggest risks, and by far the most popular reason for holidaymakers making a claim, is food poisoning. Regardless of the cause, if you fall is as a result of poor quality food, poor food handling practices or poor standards of hygiene at your hotel, then you are entitled to receive compensation.

Does destination matter?

Does it matter where you’ve been? No. Destination makes no difference – although it’s true, some places are riskier than others – our claims experts can help you regardless of which country you were in. Spain topped the list of destinations which had left poor holidaymakers hitting the bathroom more often than the beach. The research of 2,000 holidaymakers was commissioned by travel specialists who reported a sharp rise in the number of people finally seeking help after falling ill abroad.

Our experts offer free advice and will explain the entire claims process to you. We actually operate on a no win, no fee basis, so that if for any reason you’re not entitled to a claim, you won’t pay anything at all.

If you’ve suffered from sickness on holiday – in Spain or anywhere else in the world – whilst on a package holiday, you could be surprised at just how much compensation you may be entitled to receive. You’ll probably be even more surprised at just how easy the whole claims process is. Claim back what you’re owed, from having your time away ruined by someone else’s negligence… And make it up to your family members by booking your next trip together.
