Money can be tight at the best of times and not all groceries stores have great deals on 24/7. Buying food and other groceries can be very costly and you might end up breaking the bank. That’s where loyalty cards and reward schemes can help. Whether it is in the form of an old school plastic card or modern day app, they give everyone a bit of something extra. Here is a quick and handy guide to reward loyalty cards.

1. Nectar Card

Cardholders receive points on purchases made at participating retailers both instore and online e.g Sainsbury. When you spend a pound, in exchange you will collect a point, though this can vary depending on the store location. You then redeem the points – for example, 500 points get you £2.50 off a shop. In other words, 1 point would be redeemed for 0.5p. In certain deals, the value could be increased. Extra points may be earned when buying certain products or during particular promotions. A number of other online retailers (ASOS, Argos) award points when purchases are made on their websites accessed through the main Nectar website. You can even obtain Nectar points by donating to Oxfam.

2. Boots Advantage Card

Boots stock a wide range of health products and goodies such as sandwiches, hayfever tablets, cosmetics, to aspirin. Boots Advantage is viewed as one of the best loyalty cards on the market, providing generous rewards in the form of points. It’s pretty simple, for every pound spent the cardholder receives four points. Each point is worth 1p so if you spend £20 you will earn 80 points, which could mean a free chocolate bar or a bag of crisps, the choice is yours! Unfortunately, the points cannot be used on expensive prescriptions or phone top up.

3. Tesco Clubcard

The most well-known loyalty card is also one of the best for value. Tescos have many branches, so it’s easy to take advantage of their long-established Clubcard. How Tesco Clubcard works is, for every pound you spend at Tesco, you get 1 Clubcard point equalling a penny. It is pretty simple, isn’t it? It does get interesting from here, as you receive vouchers every 3 months, depending on how much points you collect. You could total up all your points over that period and you can boost them through companies like Chessington World of Adventures Resort, RAC and Bella Italia, etc. Plus by giving feedback as indicated at the bottom of your receipt you can instantly obtain 25 points.
